How we support your student

First year students who opt into the Roar 2 Success program receive invaluable support! In order to maximize the work that we do with your student we do have expectations and consider what we do to be in partnership with your student, so participation is key.

What is a first year student support network and who does it include?

The first year student support network refers to a team of professional staff at Buffalo State University who work in collaboration for the benefit of your student’s success. Check out the graphic below for details:

Buffalo State University First Year Student Support Network

The most Important part of the network is YOU!

Once your student starts classes, it is easy to believe that they have arrived and that they will figure it all out. While eventually they will, its important to recognize that in the first year your student has reverted back to being a “newbie”. This simply means that they are navigating a new environment, meeting new people, learning new expectations, and navigating a new system. This can be overwhelming, so making time to connect with your student regularly via phone, text, or etc will be very important in the first year and beyond. Check out our Parent/Family Support Tips to keep the conversation going.
