What is the Bengal Bound Summer Bridge Program?

How do I register?
All students are required to formally register for the Bengal Bound Summer Bridge Program. The registration form can be found in your applicant portal. This program is mandatory and is limited to the first 250 students, failure to attend or register before the program reaches capacity, will change your status with the Roar 2 Success program.
Is the Summer Bridge Program in Person or online?
The Bengal Bound Summer Bridge program is a fully in person program in Buffalo, NY at Buffalo State University. It typically occurs the week before fall classes begin.
How will I get to Buffalo, NY?
Students are responsible for their own transportation to Buffalo, NY from their hometown. Occasionally Roar 2 Success charters a bus leaving from NYC. Information can be found on the summer bridge registration from, located in your applicant portal. Space is limited on the bus and is first come first serve.
Where will I live during the Summer Bridge Program?
Residential students (students who live more than 35 miles away from campus), will be required to move in early and will be placed in their fall housing assignment. Commuter students (students who live less than 35 miles away and do not select to live on campus) will commute each day to and from campus for required events and activities. Students do not incur an additional billing charge for early move in.
Will I be provided with food?
All registered and enrolled Roar 2 Success students attending the summer bridge will be provided with Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner daily. On the weekend, this slightly varies and students will receive Brunch, Dinner, and snacks. Students do not incur additional charges for these meals.
What do I need to bring?
Residential students will be moving into their fall housing placement permanently, so we recommend reviewing the Res Life "what to bring/what not to bring" list and packing accordingly. Students riding the bus are limited to 2 large suitcases and a carry on, so we advise that if you need to bring more than this, that you coordinate your own transportation, or invite your family to join you on campus with the rest of your things on campus wide move in day. We also encourage that heavier items like mini fridges be ordered online and shipped to the mail room directly once they are open for the academic year season.
Is there a cost to this program?
No, this program is a requirement for students accepted to Buffalo State through the Roar 2 Success program, as a result the costs to operate this program is covered by the University.

What is UNC 100 ? :
UNC 100 also known as mastering the academic environment is a semester long course that continues to acclimate our first year students to the rigor and expectations of college. The professors connected to the course specifically teach sections connected to this program. Your classmates are all also R2S students. This course builds community and familiarity amongst your cohort. Success Navigators are also co-assigned to this course and will periodically facilitate classes.
What are R2S Community Courses ? :
A community course is a class identified by Academic Affairs and Roar 2 Success leadership and is embedded in the curriculum for R2S students. These courses will not extend or delay a student's graduation, but will expose them to critical developmental areas for future academic and professional success. These courses vary year to year and your Success Navigator will work identify and register you for these courses. Examples of such courses are, UNC 100 (Mastering the Academic Environment), BSC 189 (Academic Success Seminar), FIN 110 (Personal Budgeting), UNC 120 (English Essentials), SPC 205 (Intro to oral communication), SPC 307 (Group Communication), CWP 101/102 (College writing), UNC 111 (Career Exploration), CRS 205 (Creative Thinking), and SPC 306 (Public Speaking).
What is a book voucher ? :
College textbooks are required to be successful in your courses, but unlike high school, these are not provided to you by the instructor and THEY ARE NOT FREE. Roar 2 Success wants to ensure all of their students have the best possible chance for academic success so we pay for your college textbooks each semester you are enrolled in the program. This voucher will be connected to your Banner ID# and can be used on the school's Barnes and Noble website. You will need to create and account on this website so your book funds are recognized. If any of your text or materials are not available in the bookstore or are rental only, please reach out to your Success Navigator ASAP!
How do I access my book voucher ? :
As long as you have maintained active participation in the R2S program (see making the most of R2S section) your book voucher will automatically populate to your student account no later than the first week of classes. You will then be able to order your books through the school’s Barnes and Noble website. Book vouchers can be used to purchase books, or course supplies. Merch, food, and technology (except a calculator) is currently not permitted. If you are having difficulty with remembering the steps for the online Barnes and Noble store please connect with a peer mentor, office staff, or Success Navigator within the first 3 weeks of the semester. Book vouchers can not be used after week 3. Students who do not maintain active program participation will receive a partial or no award for the following semester. R2S Students are eligible for book vouchers for all 4 semesters they are enrolled in the program.
I didn't know Roar 2 Success paid for my books and I bought them already, can you pay me back ? :
Unfortunately, Roar 2 Success is unable to individually reimburse students or parents for textbooks or course materials prematurely purchased. If you are able to return the items and get a refund we encourage you to do so and then re-order using the book voucher. If this is not possible, we encourage you to remember this program perk for future enrolled semesters.
Does class attendance matter : ?
In short, YES! In college you will have to self regulate and manage your time effectively. There won't be anyone to wake you up in the morning or remind you what time class starts. Many classes have an attendance policy and missing 3 or more classes will result in immediate failure of the course or the reduction of your course grade by one full letter grade. Many instructors also have a tardy policy, which means being late so many times will also count as an absence. Failing a class due to attendance is not great and will cause you to have to repeat the course. Be sure you know what day your classes occur. Most classes are offered 3x/week for 50 min or 2x/week for 1hr 15min. MWF (means Monday, Wed, and Friday) and TR (means Tuesday and Thursday). There are some single day classes occasionally offered and these typically run on the designated day for 3 hours.
