What do these academic terms mean?

Add/Drop Week:

Occurs the first week of the semester (check the academic calendar for official dates each semester). Allows student the opportunity to adjust their schedule without penalty. Pro Tip: Be sure to attend classes during this week so you know how you like your overall schedule, instructors, and course selection. Please note changes after this date may come with financial and academic penalties.

Pass/Fail Period (P/F):

Pass/fail should be considered if you are ideally passing a class but do not want to suffer the potential GPA hit, if the potential letter grade you receive for the class is abnormal compared to your other course grades that semester. (for example, you have 4 As and one D, the student should consider p/f for the D course to save their semester gpa.). Passing a class when you submit for p/f allows you to obtain course credit toward graduation but not the gpa impact. Failing when you submit for a p/f means you do not receive course credit or gpa impact. Certain courses like CWP and major courses are not eligible for a pass fail. After you submit for a p/f you still need to attend that class and complete the course work.  Students only receive a certain amount of pass fails for the duration of their time as a student, check degree works to see how many you have used and how many you have left. P/F can be completed by logging into banner. Always consult an advisor/success navigator before submitting for a p/f, as there could be graduation and financial aid implications.

Course Withdraw (W/D):

Withdrawing from a course should be used sparingly and not as a regular strategy. This is an option for students who have spoken with their professor about their progress and have discovered that no matter what they do for the remainder of the semester, that there is no potential to pass the course. When you w/d from a course you do not receive course credit or a grade. Once you w/d you no longer need to attend that class or complete course work for the class. The more courses your w/d from the longer your college journey will take. W/D can be completed by logging into banner. Always consult an advisor/success navigator before submitting for a w/d, as there could be graduation and financial aid implications.
